Celebrating 30 Years of Changing Lives at Anchor Center for Blind Children
Rebecca Fawcett  |  July 14, 2026

In the heart of Denver's Central Park neighborhood is a place that has been changing lives for more than four decades. The Anchor Center for Blind Children has been a beacon of hope for children who are blind or visually impaired and the families who love them. Since 1982, Anchor Center has provided early intervention, education, and family support to children from birth to age five, helping each child build the skills, confidence, and independence to thrive.

At the heart of Anchor Center's mission is a simple but powerful belief: every child deserves the opportunity to reach their fullest potential. Through individualized programming, specialized instruction, and unwavering family support, children are given the tools to confidently navigate the world around them. Just as importantly, Anchor Center continues to advocate for greater awareness, accessibility, and inclusion, creating a lasting impact that extends far beyond its classrooms.

Several years ago, I began volunteering with Anchor Center, and from the very first day, I knew it would become a cause close to my heart. Each year, I am incredibly grateful to serve alongside an inspiring team of staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners who work tirelessly to create brighter futures for these amazing children. Anchor Center is so much more than a school, it's a place where children discover what's possible, families find support, and lifelong connections are made.

This year marks a very special milestone as Anchor Center celebrates the 30th Annual Sunset in the City Gala. What began three decades ago as A Day in the Country has grown into one of Denver's most meaningful philanthropic evenings, bringing together more than 400 supporters for an unforgettable night of community, generosity, and celebration.

Guests will enjoy an elegant evening featuring cocktails, fine wine, a beautifully plated dinner, exciting silent and live auctions, inspiring stories from Anchor Center families, and the opportunity to directly support children who are blind or visually impaired. Every ticket purchased, sponsorship secured, auction item donated, and contribution made helps ensure these life-changing services remain available to families throughout Colorado.

There are several meaningful ways to be part of this year's celebration:

  • Become an Event Sponsor and receive special recognition while making a lasting impact.
  • Host a beautifully decorated table and invite friends, family, or colleagues to experience the evening together.
  • Purchase individual tickets and join hundreds of community members in celebrating 30 years of hope, resilience, and possibility.
  • Donate an auction item or make a financial contribution if you're unable to attend.

Whether you've attended for years or are considering joining us for the very first time, I would love to share more about this incredible organization and how you can get involved. You can learn more about this year's event here: 30th Annual Sunset in the City Gala.

If attending the gala isn't possible this year, your support can still make a tremendous difference through a donation to Anchor Center. Every act of generosity helps provide children with the education, therapy, and resources they need to build bright, independent futures.

The Anchor Center is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together with compassion, purpose, and a shared commitment to making a difference. I am honored to play a small part in its mission and incredibly grateful to everyone who continues to support this extraordinary organization.
