In the heart of Denver’s Central Park neighborhood lies a beacon of hope and empowerment for visually impaired children and their families: the Anchor Center for Blind Children. Founded in 1982, the Anchor Center has been a pioneer in providing comprehensive services to children from birth to five years old who are blind or visually impaired. Its mission is simple yet profound: to provide early intervention, education, and family support so each child can thrive and reach their full potential in a sighted world.
At the core of this mission is the belief that every child, regardless of visual ability, deserves the opportunity to learn, grow, and succeed. Through individualized programs tailored to each child’s needs, the Anchor Center fosters independence, confidence, and a lifelong love of learning. Beyond its direct services, the center also advocates for awareness, inclusion, and the rights of individuals with visual disabilities—creating lasting impact in both the community and society at large.
I began volunteering at the Anchor Center several years ago, and from the moment I first stepped inside, I knew it would be a lifelong commitment. Year after year, I’m honored to contribute my time in support of the incredible team who dedicate themselves to this mission. The Anchor Center is far more than just a facility—it is a nurturing environment where children discover their strengths and chart their course toward a bright future.
One of the most meaningful ways the community comes together to support the Anchor Center is at Sunset in the City. This signature fundraiser, originally launched 29 years ago as A Day in the Country picnic, has grown into a vibrant evening that now welcomes more than 400 guests. Attendees gather for cocktails, dinner, and live entertainment, hear from inspiring speakers, and take part in both silent and live auctions—all in celebration and support of the Anchor Center’s mission.
There are many ways to join in: become a Table Host, Event Sponsor, or Guest. Want to learn more? Reach out to me for additional details!
If you aren’t able to attend this year’s Gala, there are still plenty of opportunities to give back—through other special events or by making a donation.
The Anchor Center embodies the power of community, compassion, and collaboration in transforming lives. Thank you to our amazing supporters who continue to stand behind this extraordinary organization.
